Former Man City midfielder Trevor Sinclair has been called out on social media for hypocritical comments he has made about Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Manchester United.
The move to City was initially a huge talking point, with many fans and pundits believing that Ronaldo was the perfect answer to their number nine vacancy following the collapse of the pursuit of Harry Kane.
Former City midfielder Sinclair was one of those, telling talkSPORT that the signing of the 36-year-old could bring Pep Guardiola’s side closer to a potential Champions League triumph.
However when United successfully managed to sign Ronaldo from under their neighbour’s noses, Sinclair’s opinion on the deal seemed to change negatively when it became clear the legendary forward would be wearing red for the coming season.
Fans have latched on to the change and reacted with humour, with some even claiming that Ronaldo will feed off the negative comments and look to shut him (and others) up during the campaign.
Ronaldo is currently away with Portugal’s national team for the international break and will take on Republic of Ireland, Qatar and Azerbaijan before returning to Manchester for training with his new teammates.
He is likely to make his second debut for the club against Newcastle on September 11th at Old Trafford.
