Manchester United have included promising youngster Anthony Elanga in their 40-man squad for their upcoming UEFA Youth League campaign.
The Reds’ youngsters will get their 2021/22 European adventure under way when they face Swiss outfit Young Boys on Tuesday lunchtime, just a few hours before the first-team squad gets their Champions League campaign against the same opposition up and running.
Just like the first-team squad, United’s youngsters have also been joined in Group F by Atalanta of Italy, Spanish side Villarreal and, of course, Young Boys.
Boss Neil Wood, who is the manager of the club’s Under-23s side, has been able to name several high-profile and big-name youngsters in his 40-man squad, including Teden Mengi, Hannibal, Shola Shoretire, and Elanga.
After facing Young Boys at Sportpark Wyler on Tuesday lunchtime, United’s youngsters will then lock horns with Villarreal at Leigh Sports Village on September 29.
The Reds will then welcome Atalanta to Leigh Sports Village towards the end of October.
United will then face Atalanta and Villarreal away from home in November, before concluding their Group F campaign at home to Young Boys on December 8, once again at Leigh Sports Village.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UEFA Youth League was cancelled last season, meaning this season’s competition will be United’s first involvement in it since the 2018/19 campaign. That time around they made it to the last-16 before being knocked out of the competition by Danish side FC Midtjylland.
